Background
Thomas nó Valerian was born into Valerian House to a mother who was a third-generation Valerian courtesan. From early childhood, it was assumed that he would continue the family tradition, and by the time he was six, he was certain of it, too.
His childhood, for a Valerian adept, was unassuming. He was trained in the typical fashion and showed good promise, but no better than most. The only noteworthy point was that he showed a special affinity for the more religious aspects of service to Naamah. As such, his debut was thrilling to him, a moment when he could finally enter true service after sixteen years of childhood and training.
After taking two and a half years to complete his marque, there was never any question that Thomas would remain in service to the house where he grew up. He was a quiet courtesan, very devout, very determined to be pleasing to his patrons for that was the way to be pleasing to Naamah. For more than ten years he served in this capacity, helping train new courtesans while he served, and as he aged, his piety only increased.
On his 30th birthday, Thomas declared his intention to live the rest of his life out in service as a priest of Naamah. He left Valerian House on the best of terms with the blessing of the dowayne of the time, Leonore. For the next four years, he was anonymous to the City of Elua in general, serving out as a typical priest, content with his lot in life.
But as Valerian House lost its dowayne and the replacements got younger and younger, concern was wrought by both the leadership and the Queen (who had, of course, once been Dowayne Valerian herself). Ultimately, Thomas was talked into the notion that his best service to Naamah would be to return to Valerian House to bring experience and stability to a house that had seen enough upheaval in the last two years. The current second and dowayne agreed to this readily, tiring of their place as leaders at such a young age, and so it is that Thomas nó Valerian becomes dowayne.
