Description
The marketplace is the commercial center of town. Right off the
riverwalk, shops and taverns line the streets, their roofs made of slate tiles
and their walls of plastered wood and stone. Signs hang from the doorways of
various shops, some freshly painted, others faded, announcing the business
taking place inside each building. Market stalls selling all sorts of wares
stand in the middle of the street -- temporary-looking wooden structures, some
with brightly colored tarps hanging down the sides of them.
During the daytime, the more established merchants hawk their wares from these structures or from the shops. Peddlers walk the streets, their goods either stacked in small pushcarts or hanging from their bodies. Across the river to the north spreads Night's Doorstep. To the south and east of the market is the beginning of the residential district, the shops giving way to homes of various worth. To the west the towers of the royal palace pierce the sky.
Recent signs of renovation include a broad marble fountain, several statues, and quite a number of elegant benches.
