Talk:Eisande

From Wiki

The page looks wonderful!

One upgrade: If we're going to be referencing holidays or traditions they should be kept thematic. No Christmas and Jesus, but the TdA equivs instead.

Christmas

I wasn't sure and had hopped someone would have let me know if it needed removed or not. Thanks. I took that part out then.

Mariska's Player

Regions

This keeps bugging me. :P LOL I am pretty sure that the regions/departments were not in effect back then. If I had more time, I would research more and find out the accurate regions. As far as I know, in the books, only the actual provinces were described and cities and towns. Perhaps, until someone can research more, mention of departments should be taken out? :/ Thoughts?

RE: Regions

Mariska: If they had Comtes (Which usually govern a County), I imagine they had to have regions within the Duchy for their Comtes. Provided the Comte rank of a noble is in Theme? County in French is Comte.... But France calls them Departments. So, unless there is something in the book one way or the other, I would guess Staff has to decide which way they want to go.

Oh, no doubt there were regions. :P I just mean the term departments and the actual ones listed are, I think, the modern names. :) Which is why I was suggesting not going into detail about them until more research could be done. It is completely up to you and staff, though, I was just suggesting. When I said it was bugging me, it was because I can't research it but I know it should be done. :P That bugs me that I can't. Know what I mean? --Briar 00:26, 22 September 2008 (EDT)

Mariska: I did try to change the names to make them more in theme... replacing the Alps with the proper name and such. I'm trying to find anything on when Regions were added to Provinces but so far... I'm not find anything. In the book, The heroine, Phedre, inherits the title of Comtesse. The book didn't mention what that title gave her charge of. With the title came an estate. If I find something, I'll post it.

History Discovered...

I found a few historical maps of France online that shows the Duchies in our time period with dividing lines within in the duchies into smaller regions. Here are the links:

Exhibit I <-- This one shows smaller regions within the Provinces

Exhibit II<- Another one

Exhibit III<-- Another

Hope that helps with whoever has to decide on if I remove the Departments or not :) I don't care either way really. It doesn't effect any of my characters.

My main concern, for the game as a whole, is if we do remove them... Would that bind the game to having one person per rank in each Duchy since county type seats would not exist? For example, each Duchy only have on Marquise, one Comte, one Viscomte...etc?

  • hugs* Please don't think I am harping on stuff. I think you have done an awesome job on the page. :D The thing is, though...my thoughts were more of...keeping some things vague, yet still as accurate as possible to the setting and theme. The main thing that causes confusion, I think, on the subject, is that it is not exactly historical France. Therefore, names and places are changed. Personally, I think it is better to let players make up their own Comtes that they hold. Like..Etienne would be Comte Andrassy, etc. Same for other nobles and stuffs. (Hope I explained better this time? :P)--Briar 13:12, 22 September 2008 (EDT) (edited)

Hey cool line code. I didn't know you could do that. Learn something new everyday. Yes! I completely agree! They honestly should have the names of their Comte's titled to them. I'll make those edits today and let me know what you think. As for the areas with no PCs yet, I'll just not name them and we can name them as PCs come in, I think.

Heehe. Yeah, I am horrible sometimes at explaining things. :P But that is exactly what I was trying to say. :P--Briar 13:16, 22 September 2008 (EDT)

Changes Made!

Okay, I redid the Comtes and I set up an area for each Marquis(e) to be in charge of... There is the West side of Eisande, Central and the East. Later I'll make a list of open titled positions available in Eisande for PCs too! Thanks for the input, Briar.
