Plots

From Wiki

A plot is a small story or subplot (also called a TinyPlot) that generally is joined and played out by the characters in the MUX. There are quite a lot of different variables to each plot, and they can be major, minor, or even game-wide. Generally, most of the important plots are run by game staff, but smaller ones can be initiated and run by Feature Characters.

Creating and Joining a Plot

The method of creating and joining a plot is fairly simple:

  1. The Feature Character generates a plot via +plot/new <name of the plot>. It will automatically be flagged "unapproved" and cannot be further edited until it is approved by a game admin. Send a @mail to *staff describing your plot and it will be checked over and approved later.
  1. Once it is approved, the FC can then edit the plot using +plot/edit and begin accepting people to become involved in it. To join a plot already in progress or just starting, simply @mail or page the FC who initated it saying you are interested in being a part of the plot in some way. The FC should have something for each person who wants to join it to do.
  1. When the plot is underway, much of the reactions and actions of the plot itself (such as minor NPCs) can be played by the FC who initiated it. If the plot affects theme in any way or is a major plot, the game RP admin will be deciding where the major turns in the plot lead.

Plot Details

Plots generally can be quite varied. Features also have different abilities when it comes to running plots -- the King or Queen has the most freedom when it comes to running plots, with Dukes or Duchesses second and the others getting progressively less important; only smaller plots can generally be run by the less important FCs. There can be exceptions if it's a particularly well-thought-out plot, however.

Some ideas for plots:

Major Plots:

  • Assassinations/mutinies
  • Invasions/Declaring war on a neighbour
  • Major kidnapping/theft (ie. a royal family member)
  • Major treason/other crimes (ie. arson, murder)
  • Plague/sickness

Minor Plots:

  • Raids, highwaymen, bandits, etc.
  • Creation of a minor guild (thieve's guild, town watch)
  • Major masques/balls/fetes/events

The possibilities are only limited by the imagination of the FC, really-- very few plots are actually turned down. Feel free to affect the game itself in your plot, too, just so long as the game staff are kept informed about things that are going on. Use the descadd command often to edit the description of the plot as things progress, such as which players in the plot you still need and how things are going.

When it comes to the description itself, feel free to add as much or as little information about the plot itself as you like -- characters should NOT know the details if you don't add a caveat saying "this part is common knowledge" and "this is what I want to see happen in the plot" and so on. People should contact the FC to get more details if they're interested in becoming part of it. If a plot affects someone else (ie. an assassination) than the target MUST be part of the plot as well (on an OOC level). When in doubt, contact game admin.
