Life As A Noble
A Noble's day started at sunrise. Most would awaken and break their fast before starting on with the day's business. Reports would be heard concerning their land and finances. Any complaints or disputes from their vassals would be dealt with. In the afternoon, it was common to go riding, hunting, or inspecting the Estate. After a hearty supper, it was natural for some entertainment to commence. Normal decisions, conversations and discussions would often be political in nature. However, a lot of time was spent on the arts, such as music, dancing, and poetry.
Courtiers
A very special category of nobles were the Courtiers. A courtier is an attendant to the Monarch. Since the Court was the centre of government, as well as the residence of a Monarch, social and political life were entwined. Monarchs expected the more important nobles to spend much of their time at Court and most were there to gain favour among the King and Queen and those above them in station. Promotions to important positions were fairly common to those who succeeded in gaining such favour, but so was demotion, if one were to somehow fall from grace. The very ambitious thrived here and competition and intrigue were rife. The Royal Court was exciting and glamorous and full of possibilities.
The Queen's Ladies
Among those at Court were the chosen few whom the Queen would pick to attend her as Ladies In Waiting. These Ladies came from upstanding Noble families throughout the Kingdom and their duties included providing companionship to Her Majesty, as well as looking after her comfort and well-being. They would reside in the Palace where they could be close to her. This was a position most sought after by young Ladies for being a Lady In Waiting was a great honour and could carry some influence in Court.
