Background
A commoner d'Angeline, Mathieu was one of the Palace Guards when he met then-Princess Eliresse during his rounds about the Palace. Eventually they fell in love as young, headstrong people tend to do but they managed to keep it a secret for quite some time -- the Princess was betrothed to one of the Cruarch's family members in Alba and it would be quite a scandal if she eloped instead with some no-name commoner. When she became queen she simply refused to marry for a time, and eventually it became obvious that Mathieu Ghyselin was the reason. The nobles were suitable outraged, of course -- they wanted her to either hurry up and marry this commoner or get rid of him, rather than be deceitful to the Albans.
After the Queen's murder, Mathieu fled the country before he could be arrested - though of course there's no proof or reason he'd have murdered her - and was eventually discovered in Aragonia by the Moorish Prince, Al-Ash'ari, during an invasion of the Aragonian nation. He was brought back and languished in the dungeons for quite some time, rarely speaking with anyone until one day he was moved to a different location. Since then he has been known to reside in a well guarded villa in the outskirts of the city, only seen outside of it in rare occasions and always escorted. Whether it is to protect or prevent escape is not openly stated.
Description
A haunted shell of a man. Mathieu was once a jovial, spirited figure in the Royal Courts, but he appears completely different now. His black hair hangs in long, uncared for bangs like a barbarian and his once gallant visage is marred by a couldn't-care-less expression. He wears a simple black jerkin, of d'Angeline make while a pair of matching black leggings complete the ensemble. A pair of boots and that is all.
Idea
Mathieu is a Staff-run pseudo-character that can interact with normal PCs (players) in the same way as a normal character, but with special rules and abilities. He is mainly used to enhance the plot as a "background" character. See NPC Policy for more detailed information.

You can request a chat with Mathieu simply by typing +request NPC=<text>
Feel free to be as simple or as detailed as you like with the +request. However, it's best to at last describe the times you're free to RP. Here's a good example:
+request NPC=I want to see if I can meet Mathieu and find some secret about the old nobility or advance my plot about hating the crown!. I'll be available between 5 and 10pm EST any day.
You can also use this tool to check with staff to include Mathieu in your background. Give us a little of info and we will add you to his story/memories if it fits or give you a few extra ideas/twists if it doesn't fit well.
Turnaround in answering +requests should be less than 3 days.
