Background
Lilias di Esperania is the daughter of a Terre d'Ange native, Lady Elise, and her Argonian husband, a nobleman of greater title than wealth. He and his wife had a great many children, Lilias herself has never been sure of the eventual number, but she was the tenth, and of those ten, eight were girls. At a loss of how to provide suitable dowries for all those daughters, Lady Elise used some connections and sent Lilias, and a few of her sisters back to Terre d'Ange, and into the Night Court.
Lilias was a sweet natured and modest child, and so she was placed in House Alyssum, and received her earliest education there, though her sisters went to other Houses, and she rarely saw them. Her memories of her home back in Aragonia soon faded, and all that mattered to her was her life in the night court, and her service to Naamah. She was well loved by her tutors and fellow sisters, but it was evident that her modesty tended more towards meekness and submission than was the norm, and it was assumed long before her tenth birthday that she would be turned over to House Valerian. Nonetheless, tradition was followed, and until the day arrived, she stayed with her original House.
Lilias was saddened to leave House Alyssum, but her devotion and obedience to the strictures of Naamah made it easier for her to accept the change, and she soon found a sense of belonging within the house, with brothers and sisters of similar disposition. As puberty began to touch her young body, she started to flower, showing signs of what would one day be a dark and voluptuous beauty, though she was blessed as well with an inherent sense of grace that lent itself easily to the arts of submission.
At the age of thirteen, as is customary, she became an apprentice and attended her first Showing, an experience which opened up new worlds and vistas of service to Naamah. From that point onwards, Lilias devoted herself wholly and completely to learning the sensual arts, as well as those of submission and suffering, all of which she took on gladly. She was pretty much what the House had in mind when it was formed, a young woman who learned to happily serve without losing so much as an ounce of her own self-respect. "I yield" was more than just a motto for her, it became the very byword of her existence.
She has lived a sheltered life, focusing only on her studies and never venturing out of the House and into the city beyond. For all that she is considerably more versed in sensuality than most young women not of the Court of Night-Blooming Flowers, she is still, in some ways, naive. She is aware that politics and intrigue abound in the court of the king, and even in the Night Court itself, but she has never encountered such herself.
Now, she is a girl of sixteen, an adult in the eyes of the Court, and the time draws near for her entrance into her Novitiate with the selling of her virginity to the highest bidder.
Personality
Lilias is a soft-spoken and soft-hearted young lady, in most ways a true Valerian. However, she has a wry, sometimes playful personality that occasionally shows through. Rarely, but when the situation is just right - or wrong - she can turn out to be a little spitfire, too.
Family, Friends, & Enemies
Family
Father: Baron Renardo di Esperania of Aragonia, Age 66 -- The Baron is a hard and proud man, made even more so by his lack of wealth to match his title. It is for that reason that he married his d'Angeline wife in the first place, though her sheer fertility more than ate up the dowry she came with. For some time, he was consumed with the pursuit of wealth, but two years ago, he was converted to the Yeshewite faith, and has been a very different - though still hard - man ever since. (NPC)
Mother: Baroness Elise di Esperania, Age 48 -- Originally of the province of Eisande, Elise came from a family with low title but considerable wealth. Her father, thinking it a good marriage for her, sent her to Aragonia at the age of sixteen to marry the baron Renardo and Elise, young and naive, was quite happy with the arrangement. Until, that is, she arrived in Aragonia and learned that things were different for women, here. She has since produced fifteen children, three of which she sent back to Terre d'Ange to join the Night Court so her money grubbing husband could avoid paying dowries. Or, that is what Elise told -him-, anyway. She is a compassionate but quite cunning woman. (NPC)
Siblings: Lilias has fifteen siblings, ranging in age from 32 to eight. Five of these are boys, ten are girls. Most will no be fleshed out for now, save for the following:
Carlotta no Mandrake, Age 21 -- Carlotta is the oldest of the three girls sent by the Baroness to Mount Nuit, and she was immediately placed with House Mandrake, where she has remained ever since. Carlotta is a lady of apparent opposites, capable of being cruel one moment and gentle the next, in the line of her work. When not entertaining patrons, she appears to be stern, but those few who have gotten to know this courtesan, who completed her marque a few months back, know that she has the compassion of her mother and younger sister. She is fiercely protective of both her sisters on Mount Nuit, and watches over them from a distance. (NPC)
Allies
Nobles
King Bastien de Morhban - Lilias met Bastien during her debut, when the d'Angeline monarch made an appearance at Valerian House to interview her in order to determine whether or not to place a bid for her virginity. Already holding the utmost respect for the King, Lilias learned that he was also an extremely attractive if intimidating man.
Middle Class Citizens
Sir Maximus Corvinus - Lilias met the former King's Shadow on a dark and rainy night when she had gotten herself lost in the heart of Elua. He escorted her home, and ever since, an odd sort of relationship has begun to bloom. There are rumours that he tried to buy her virgin contract and circumvent the auction, though this was not successful. Nonetheless, his interest in Lilias is unmistakable. Then, he won the bidding on her Debut and became her first patron, for the exorbitant price of 180 ducats. Whatever passed between them that night seems to have stolen the young Adept's heart, only to see it immediately broken as he was banned from House Valerian and vanished from her life, despite her best efforts to bring him back into it. Her first brush with love has left her the worse for wear, more like a Heliotrope than a Valerian.
Dedication: Trip by Hedley
Sebastian de Morel - Lilias ran into Sebastian - quite literally - outside the palace just before her debut, and the two proceeded to have a conversation that Lilias found fascinating, earning the inventor a fond place in her heart.
Other Courtesans
Dowayne Thomas no Valerian - Lilias has nothing but respect and, it seems, affection for the Dowayne of her House. The two have spent some time together recently to plan her Debut and this has only increased both feelings.

Recent Events
- Lilias has now had her debut, raising her from novice to adept, and what a debut it turned out to be. Rather than the 'usual' public event, this was a return to Valerian traditions. A silent auction was held over the course of a week, wherein patrons were invited to stop by the house and check out the Debutante. In the end, after bids by some extremely powerful men, including the Duc of Kusheth and the King himself, it was Maximus who won her virginity, for the astronomical price of 180 ducats.
