Kusheth

Kusheth is one of the larger provinces of Terre d'Ange, connected to Azzalle in the northeast, Siovale in the south, and Namarre and L'Agnace in the east with coastline to the west. Though the coastline is rocky and inhospitable, further inland the terrain is verdant and fertile, with lush fields and farmland. Along the Lusande river there's also a large, open expanse known as the Hippochamp; three huge horse fairs are held there each year. Traditionally, House de Morhban has ruled Kusheth, though House Shahrizai has constantly been at odds with them. Kusheth was founded by Kushiel, the Punisher of the One God who punished sinners so that they might repent. Kusheth is also home to the Palais de Morhban.

Geography

Kusheth occupies similar territory as Bretagne in France, a rocky coastal region running to the Point d'Oueste. Kusheth is considered the dominion of Kushiel, the angel of punishment, and was ruled over by the Duc de Morhban, before Duc Bastien's ascension to the throne and that family's to the Royal Family. One of the most important houses of Kusheth is House Shahrizai, from which the historical villainess Melisande Shahrizai sprang. It is to that House that the ruling of the duchy now falls. While Kusheth is rocky and harsh terrain on the coast, its interior is green and agricultural. Kusheth is home to the Hippochamp, a broad green field along the Lusande River that is the site of three major horse fairs each year. In early spring, the Tsingani gather there to trade yearlings and foals. The region is also known for its wines, and for seafaring.

Government

House Shahrizai is one of the oldest and bluest of blood of all the noble families of Terre D'Ange. They trace their line directly to Kushiel the Punisher, and are well known for their tendency to marry within the bloodline in order to preserve it, with most members of the House making matches with cousins rather than thin the line. The House has a tangled past, famous for the members constant political plotting and entanglements, which led under the Courcel reign to much fostered mistrust. A history of struggle with House de Morhban also marked the Shahrizai, causing much political intrigue over the years as members vyed for power with one another.

Much of that looks to change under the de Morhban throne, with trust built between the head of House Shahrizai and the young King. As such, they find themselves the ruling House of the Duchy of Kusheth, rather than forced to operate on its fringes. In addition to politics, the Shahrizai (and indeed most Kushelines) are well known for a love of wine and horses, both specialties of the province. The symbol of House Shahrizai is three interlocking keys upon a bed of black, meant to invoke imagery of Kushiel the Punisher, who was said to have held in his keeping the keys to the Gates of Hell.
