Training

In addition to the sensual arts, Balm trains its courtesans in a variety of different means to offer rest and relaxation as well as the alleviation of discomfort to its patrons. While Adepts recieve training in many of these fields, it is not uncommon for them to elect to focus on one particular skill they show aptitude for. A well rounded courtesan of Balm will have at least some training in many of the following areas:

Creating a calm, soothing atmosphere by way of voice, mannerism, and proper etiquette.
The art of massage, for both therapeutic and erotic purposes, utilizing various techniques from around the world.
Various holistic techniques that incorporate relaxation and spa pampering.
The art and craft of healing, including midwivery and pharmacopeia.
The preparation of oils, incenses, tinctures and other herbal remedies.
Musical training with an emphasis in instruments and vocal pieces designed to promote relaxation.
Education in various intellectual pursuits to provide entertaining and stimulating conversation.

Debuts

Balm Debuts are generally affairs that are extended through invitation to the upper echelons of D'Angeline society. Proxy bids may be sent previous to the event at the discretion of the Dowayne. The Adept for whom the Debut is being held may also have some contribution in who is invited, and who is accepted, again at the Dowayne's discretion.

Upon arrival, guests are offered the option of changing into a relaxation robe made of fine material, usually of linen, silk or satin. Soothing music, finger foods, and fine wines will be circulating, with adepts available to offer the guests massages as they recline on couches and chaises throughout the event. While the actual bidding does tend itself to excitement, the overall intention is to provide a relaxing, comfortable environment for everyone involved.
