Lyon Hermès de Trevalion returned to the City of Elua on the 1st of Mai, 1185.
Background
What is Known
- Born to Duc Mazarin of Azzalle on Juillet of 1147, the Trevalion heir was infused with the same thirst of adventure and imperious spirit that have characterized his lineage. He travelled with tutors from a very early age, and eventually sent to the Eluan court to hone the rest of his skills. As far as those about his age may remember, he did rather well at that and was rather close to the crown. Until he suddenly left, that is. In time the Lady Mistral took the reins of the household, rumors of his death confirmed by the Duchess' few words about him.
- Hermès never truly realized that he was dead until he arrived in Azzalle the spring after the de Morhban's coronation. It was one surprise among many others like his father's death and the current state of affairs. Of his absence and whereabouts he speaks to those who would know or not as he wishes, so the rumors vary and range from things like a religious pilgrimage to a falling out with the de la Courcel family, with anything in between including visions and death. The fact is that that very spring a slow trickle of Trevalions started leaving their commonplace haunts to meet at the Azzalle estate. Some have remarked on their silence until the summer of 1185.
- The Trevalion's first official act in the city of Elua was to inform of his presence to the King himself on open court, and followed suit by handing the official papers of his Azzallese designation and birthright. Soon after that, the elevation ceremony officialized the Duc's position together with the new Duchess of Namarre. Since then there has been talk of the pair's public exploits and verbal fencing, but also on how they often end up on the same side of things. It is also said that his oath taking at the elevation was somewhat ambiguous, which may explain why his relations with the crown aren't quite as warm as they could be. Or perhaps there are other reasons.
- Since then, Hermès has been seen mostly attending to matters of state or visiting the night court, which seems to hold a strong grip on him at times.
What Older People would know
- After an undisclosed incident in the Azzalle estates, the young Hermès de Trevalion was sent by his father to the City of Elua's court with a generous Night Court fund. In that he didn't disappoint. The best servants of Naamah flocked to him. The modest, the flawless, the bold and the yielding, and he charmed each of them with his ease of speech and silver tongue. The nights in the chosen houses were fruitful in relaxation, if not quite Naamah's gift itself. Eventually he succumbed to the Dowayne of Camellia house, or at least so it was popularly understood when he started spending his time almost exclusively in her house in those times when he was not playing courtier to the Queen herself.
- He made himself a name in court in the following years. If young for an advisor his closeness to the Queen's age and his bloodlines would bring him even closer to the de la Courcel throne, particularly once his years of travelling paid off during a small diplomatic crisis. For some reason he never married, but there was enough speculation around the court on other issues at the time, and the fact was not openly pressed. A lot of conclussions could be drawn from these facts, but nothing has been openly confirmed, particularly since he left the court fully on the month of Juin 1170. There were rumors as well, but I am not putting them here. (If you feel your character would know anything from these years due to whatever means, feel free to check with Hermes' player via @mail or page. He's always glad to spread information, create lines of gossip and what not)
What the Azzallese would know
- Sometime in the year 1184 the ducal heir arrived in Azzalle and convocated a discrete conclave of the House Trevalion. Little has been heard in the city about the whereabouts of this family of late, and it has largely had to do with this stand of theirs. The lady Mistral has left the borders once again, this time in the direction of Alba and Eire, though a few speak of her presence in the three sisters if only in hushed tones. In either case, she has had no say or vote into the family ranks since then and, even as the scribe worked the last of the decisions into parchment, the returning Duc of Azzalle marched towards the city of Elua.
What People around the World would know
- Varies greatly. In the last years the Duc and his entourage have visited and left a (not always visible) trail through many different countries and cultures. From CU to Aragonia to Menekhet, Bhodistan, Persia, Alba and Eire, Hellas, you name it. If your character has had reason or opportunity to know more or you wish to create a character related to these events, feel free to contact the Duc's player as well.
The Trevalion Line
Dramatis Personae
Royalty
Athenais de Morhban - The new queen made a good impression on the Duc the first few times they met across the council table, yet he has been known to change his opinion often enough. So far the interactions between the Trevalion Duc and Her Majesty continue to be tentative and guarded on both sides.
Bastien de Morhban - There is great reservation on the dealings between the Azzallese Duc and the new King of Terre d'Ange as well. And truth be told, that is just the way it should be if these two strong characters are true to who they are. There have been times of understanding, and at least both are doing their best to overcome their differences. Or their likenesses, as it were.
Eliresse de la Courcel (deceased) - The relationship between the Azzallese Marquis and his (former) Queen has had more of rumor than anything else. With the time that passed and the distance in between it would be hard for anyone to find or know the truth from more than one person at least. And who would care to ask?.
Nobility
Azzallese
Alexiane de Trevalion - Newly arrived in the city of Elua, the Duc's cousin has been met with amusement and expectation both, and he is finding a lot of good qualities on this scion of Azza. There are caveats, of course, as there will be with any charge of her age and upbringing, but in all he doesn't appear too worried.
Briar D'Rosiers Renaud - People will talk, of course, about these two at times. The Rose shares with him more than a few Azzallese traits, and is charming in her own way in spite of her many flaws. She amuses him at times, at others surprises him, and even a time or two she has earned a time out. Recently he became a guardian for her daughter, and his blessing for Athene was heard to be 'Dirt'. There are too many rumors, really, to be listed here.
Fauve de Trevalion - His 'Tante Cherie' is someone the Duc still looks up to at times when advice is needed or sought. He respects the high priestess' opinion as well as her knowledge and her gift, which have proven true to him more than once in the past. They also share their love for the night court and Naamah herself, which makes them closer than most.
Mazarin de Trevalion (deceased)- The former Duc is not a topic of conversation that the new one will normally indulge in. The two were strong personalities on their own right and clashes were to be expected, but none carried too far at any given time.
Talaith de Trevalion - Not much is said about the Lady Mistral either, other than she is well and has no plans for returning to the city. Currently she is living with her mother's relatives and that is exactly where Hermes wants her to be until he can find enough answers to his questions.
Camlachian
Alexara D'Aiglemort - The pair met when Alexara returned to the city, and there were even some rumors of a joint visit to House Gentian soon after the Lady was denied entrance to the war council. He hasn't made any official comments on her disappearance, either.
Dominik Norstadt - The hot-headed half-skaldi seems to amuse Hermés to no end, probably because he reminds him of more than a few friends from his past. The present situation in Camlach is an interesting one to say the least, and the Duc seems to be keeping a steady eye on it.
Eugene Renaud Deceased - Having met at a disastrous event (poor Jehanne) Hermés did have a good appreciation for the Comte and his sense of humor among other things. In life he became a guard for his daughter, and in death there is also a duty.
Laurent du LacNoir - The two still have accounts to settle, though few may know of their nature. It may prove interesting, once the war is over at least.
Eisandine
Néomie de Fontaine - The mother of his friend Henrie has found an interested ear on the Duc. The Eisandine affairs are always interesting to hear about, even if he will still not tell her how he met her son.
Henrie de Fontaine - An old friend and comrade in several escapades, Henrie was a welcome sight upon the Trevalion Duc's return to the city. Even so, both men have found responsibility to be taxing enough, and their meetings are few and far between as it stands.
Kusheline
Anne Shahrizai - Beauty and Blood. Shahrizai and Trevalion have a story already convoluted enough for further complications, but the pair has been seen to converse now and then, even to the point of sharing a rather talked about carriage ride.
Chérame Shahrizai - A completely different woman from those Hermés is used to, they have been seen exchanging banter, sarcasm and even a philosophical question or three. She was even invited to the Azzalle estate once, but he doesn't really talk much about her.
Donatien Shahrizai - The Duc of Kusheth is certainly an interesting figure with which the Trevalion seems to share perhaps too many common interests. Whether as valued allies or competitors, the future of the two Duchies promises to be more intertwined than ever before.
Lucrece Dior - Recently met, Norstadt's 'angel' has provoked more than one side commentary to those around him. Not that she is the butt of all jokes, but some at least.
L'Agnacine
Prisca Belfours - The Peacock is a rather amusing woman, who seems to share several of the Duc's priorities and tastes enough to be a welcome companion for the rare free time.
Namarrese
Jehanne L'envers - So many secrets. The Duchess L'Envers and Hermés have been seen to have many points of agreement and disagreement. Most of the first are political, and most of the second are personal, probably because neither seems to approve of the other's choices too much.
The Night Court
Ariana - Everyone needs a taste of Valerian now and then. Or perhaps there is something else. The pair have been seen in public now and then, but there isn't much talk about their understanding other than perhaps about the one occasion in which her time was shared with the Peacock.
Evangeline - Delightful Panther. Or butterfly perhaps, as she was once. She offers him a flavour of different worlds in small doses, though it isn't perhaps on what she or others would imagine it to be. He visits her now and then on her Jardin, and she knows she can make him smile.
Gabrielle - First indulgence upon the Duc's return and a few other things that she probably doesn't quite care to imagine, the Heliotrope flower left a sweet enough taste in his mouth. Perhaps it isn't that often that sweetness is required, but when the moment comes, he does know where to go.
Genevieve - Spices come in different ranges of strength, and Genevieve seems to be one of the strongest flavours in the rack. A shared sense of sarcasm and appropriateness makes the interactions between these two always fun, though the same may not be true for those around them. There aren't as many rumors as there could be with the both being rather private in their interactions, but there are always wagers and gossip, like with everyone who is anyone.
Gautier - The few words exchanged between these two at public events do hint to their knowledge of each other. It couldn't be otherwise of course, considering the amount of time the Duc spent in Camellia during his youth.
Mireal - Upon the Duc's arrival, Mireal was seen often enough arriving into the Azzalle estate for one reason or another. Those visits ceased just as abruptly as they started, though, and when asked about it Hermés has been known to show little but a satisfied smile.
Simone - A recomendation to him from the Second of Valerian house, Hermés and Simone have shared but one conversation, but it was a rather satisfying one at that. His time has been too short to visit again of late, but perhaps soon enough.
Solaine (NPC) - There is much to be said and little known about whatever is or was between these two. The most frequent companion from his youth and one of whom he doesn't speak much of either. It is said one of the first things he did upon arrival was sending a note to Camellia house, but truth is he hasn't crossed its threshold even once since he left.
Others
Claude Laroche - A promising paper-pusher, a love for travelling and diplomacy. Hermés will probably be keeping an eye open in his direction for a while.
Doliana Darcel - Practicing languages is always better with a partner, and Domina Afrelius appears to share the same philosophy on this. A passing acquaintance but amusing enough in its own right, her latest choice of taunting promises to deliver even more so.
Mathieu Ghyselin - An acquaintance from the past, Mathieu probably knows as much about the Azzallese Duc as the Duc knows of him. Not that they are talking, either.
Tihamyr Petronella - Sun and shadows out of clouds. Whether they are made from or by is a matter of opinion of course. Chance meetings only, and some times chance can be manufactured well enough. Hermés learned that a long time ago, at least.
