Background
Two and a half centuries ago, the d'Atrois family was granted a moderately large piece of land in the Kusheth province. The act of service that led to this gift, and the title that came with it, has somehow been lost amidst the annals of history, which scholars interested in such things have taken to mean that it may have been a case of money changing hands. Whether or not there is truth to that supposition, it is clear that the d'Atrois predecessors certainly did not perform any heroic or epic deeds to gain their lands.
Before their quiet elevation to the nobility the d'Atrois had been prosperous merchants, vintners to be specific, so it likely came as no surprise that they immediately put their land to use, planting vineyards and starting to expand their production. As the centuries passed, their lands grew somewhat, as did their own expertise and that of the vintners they brought in, until it became an honour to be chosen, and the d'Atrois name was considered to be synonymous with good wines. The family remained ambitious, concentrating more on matters of finance, rather than actual political power, until the advent of Euryale d'Atrois.
Euryale was not only the eldest child of the Viscount Lucien d'Atrois and his first wife, she was also the only product of their marriage, as her mother passed on in childbirth. Though Lucien did eventually take a second wife, who bore him other children, his second wife was - shockingly to some - not of noble birth, but was rather the daughter of his Master Vintner, leaving Euryale the undisputed heir.
From an early age, Euryale received the very best in education, with tutors brought in from Caerdicci Unitas to teach her history, languages, literature and the art of politics. In fact, her education in that last area was more complete than any of her forebears, and her tutor managed to instill in the girl a deep-seated ambition that only grew as the years passed.
The efforts of Lucien d'Atrois, though not politically motivated, did increase the family's fortune as well as spreading the fame of its wines, until drinking d'Atrois vintages became common among the rich and powerful. However, when he died young, falling from his horse when it was spooked on a tour of the vineyards, Euryale came to power with different motivations. She took the time to bury her father and wait for the usual degree of mourning time, a thing not wholly feigned, for she had loved her father, and then set affairs in order on her estate. The father of her father's second wife was elevated to the position of steward and left to run things in Kusheth.
Taking an appropriate escort and staff, Euryale d'Atrois, Viscountess of Elair, made the journey to Elua and the court of King Bastien.
Personality
Highly ambitious, Euryale is obsessed with gaining political power and influence for her family and herself. However, there is more to her than that, and when not pursuing such things, she is generally ready to have a good time. Playful, sometimes mischievous, but gracious when the situation demands, she is every inch a d'Angeline.
