Background

Demphy D'Evoroux was born in the City of Marsilikos in the province of Eisheth to Chasse D'Evoroux and Sabine D'Evoroux.

Demphy's grandfather, Adrien D'Evoroux (also originally from Marsilikos), was a notably accomplished metalsmith, completing much of his education in Old Tiberium for the forging of iron and steelwork. Adrien's son Chasse acquired this expertise in smithing (he himself completed a gold and silver smithing apprenticeship in Milazza) as well as his father's Caerdiccan mercantile partnerships, which aided immensely in furthering his success as he pursued a career in working with the 'finer metals'. These same partnerships have been passed generation to generation, with little variation and few additions made.

Demphy was raised in his early years primarily by his mother Sabine (an avid herbalist and apothecary) and older sister, Margot (a seamstress), as his father would often travel great distances to find sources for his precious metals. As he grew older, however, Demphy's father sought to further the family's expertise in working with rare and precious materials, in hopes that someday their name would become more widely recognized, and their craftmanship prized and sought after.

Chasse began to bring Demphy along for his travels, depositing him for periods of time with various practitioners of his trade. It was with Louis de Berquen, an inventor and lapidarist beloved by his father, that Demphy developed an immense attraction to gem and precious stones. He would return to Milazza a few years later after much labor for his father for an extensive apprenticeship in the lapidary arts, working also with a diamond cutter named Peruzzi who, experiencing Demphy's aptitude with and charisma for the work, entrusted him with a number of various sized rough diamonds with which to begin his business.

After 6 years of training with silver and goldsmithing and a 10 year apprenticeship for lapidary arts and diamond cutting, Demphy D'Evoroux continues to strive for the perfect cut, the perfect polish, the maximum brilliance and absolutely exquisite execution of each and every work fashioned. His bonds with de Berguen and Peruzzi are ever strong and always his techniques are being perfected.

Two years after the completion of his apprenticeship, Demphy left his family in Marsilikos to move his practice to the City of Elua.

Description

A young-looking man, who appears perhaps to be in his late twenties. Fair skinned with hair color of dark brown cut fairly short and brushed away from his face. He is lithe of figure, long of limb, narrow of shoulder and tall of stature. Demphy D'Evoroux stands nearly 6'5" (though a bit of the height might be attributed to the heels of his boots). One may note his hands seem well worn for his age, calloused and often nicked or scraped, and his forearms riddled with a number of scars.

His face is attractively round with a broad jaw, straight and narrow nose and high and pronounced cheekbones. Often he beholds his surrounds with brow furrowed and thin lips pursed which may belie his concentrative nature. His deep-set hazel eyes observe as though to identify the world about him, with a deep curiosity, attentiveness and in detail.

He wears a shirt the color of burgundy wine, with a narrowly ruffed collar and matched ruff at the wrists. Over this shirt is worn a close-fitting cream colored pinked (patterns of cuts in the fabric) doublet with a high collar worn open at the top and small decorative silver buttons. The sleeves of this doublet are detachable. Only at home or laboring will he remove the sleeves of the doublet to bare the linen shirt. The sleeve attachments at the shoulders of the doublet are disguised by decorative wings. Short peplums cover the waist of his dark-crimson and cream paneled breeches. Gold-colored embroidery trims the collar, wrist cuffs, wings and peplums of his doublet. Draped over the doublet collar at Demphy's neck is a white muslin cravat edged with fine lace tied in the 'Trone d'Amour' fashion.

Demphy is often seen in the colder climes wearing a white leather jerkin over his doublet. Whether or not the jerkin is present, typically when outdoors he wears his hip-length cloak with hanging bell sleeves, with the velvety-suede fabric of the cloak matching in color to the crimson of his breeches and the silk lining to his doublet. When indoors, the cloak is slung over his shoulder, always the left. At the waist of his doublet is secured a narrow leather belt. Affixed to this is sizable leather pouch and a holder and scabbard for a curved sabre. The hilt visible appears encrusted with a number of brilliant gems. His footwear consists of black leather heeled boots, turned down in the wide 'bucket-top' style just below the knee. When walking extensively, he affixes wooden pattens to the bottoms of the boots to keep the heels from sinking into soft dirt or mud. Boothose of stout linen trimmed with lace are worn under his boots to protect his fine knitted stockings.

Occupation

Demphy is a Lapidary, a silver and goldsmith, and a Diamond Cutter As his trade is artistic and creative in nature, he is considered an Artisan

Lapidary Arts (craft of working, forming and finishing stone, mineral, gemstones, and other suitably durable materials such as amber, shell, pearl, coral, horn, bone, etc)

The specific skills include carving, casting, cutting, tumbling, faceting, polishing, mosaic and inlay.

A wide range of creations can be achieved using these techniques, coupled with functional skill in silver and goldsmithing, from upscale jewelry (such as cabochons, cameos and more complex faceted designs) and adornments (brooches, buckles, encrusting of hilts and handles of weaponry), to the use of the 'pietra dura' or 'opere di commessi' technique for inlay of marble to create many types of ornamentation from small decorative items such as bookends, clock faces, micro-mosaic portraits to extremely grand-scale inlaid veneers for architectural decor purposes.

Diamond-cutting includes extensive skill in achieving absolute symmetry, cut of the pendeloque, spherical, and briolette shapes, skill with the Sancy design, Rose cut, Apex cut, Mazarin cut, Brabant cut, 'Old Mine' cut, and Peruzzi cut. Each diamond is cut to maximize reflection for that individual rough.

The amount and quality of light returned to the eye demonstrates the ambitions of a faceted stone, diamond or otherwise.
