Currency

From Wiki

In Terre d'Ange, currency was standardized during the reign of Queen Ysandre de la Courcel (roughly 150 years before our timeline). Before this, the coinage was varied and often fairly random in terms of size, shape, and consistency - the only thing that mattered was the material. Now, with a full set of modern coinage, the country has a thriving economy - many other nations, in fact, also use the same brands of coin, though usually renamed to their own language.

D'Angeline currency currently converts as follows:

  • 1 Gold Ducat (pronounced "DUKuht") is equal to 100 silver d'Argents
  • 1 silver d'Argent is equal to 100 copper centimes (pronounced "SENteems")

The coinage is minted this way: Gold ducats are printed with Queen Ysandre's face on one side and a swan on the back, silver d'Argents have the face of King Ganelon de la Courcel on one side and a swan on the other, and copper centimes have the Dauphin, Rolande de la Courcel on one side and, like the others, a swan on the other (the swan was the sign of House Courcel, the previous reigning family)

In contemporary use, the copper centime is the most common coin, used for the vast majority of transactions. To see a list of average prices and get an idea of their value, see news coinage.

As for other nations, they tend to use the same method as Terre d'Ange, though their coins are named differently when they're dealing with it in their own - for example, in Caerdicca Unitas the gold ducat is named the gold denarii (pronounced dehn-AR-ee-eye), while in Aragonia the coinages are the dubloon, the escudo, and the céntimos.
