Backgrounds

KushielMUX has very minimal requirements for character generation as far as backgrounds are concerned, and in some cases no background is required at all! For characters who do not require one, you're welcome to write one anyway, but are not obligated. Some character types however, are required to have backgrounds and have them inspected by staff before going IC, and other types, namely Feature Characters, have additional requirements as well. To help clarify, here's a breakdown.

Background Optional

No background is needed for these characters, and even if a player opts to add one for their own purposes they can roll right onto the grid with it. If players would like support in creating bgs for these character types with hooks, rp staff are always happy to help!

Adepts - In our game terms, an Adept is a pre-Debut courtesan who has not yet begun their marque.

Foreigners - Most characters from the nearby countries of Aragonia, Alba & Eire, Caerdicci Unitas, and Skaldia do not require a background, however characters from more exotic parts of the world may be asked by staff to produce a background. Also, if you plan to play a noble from any foreign country with a rank equivalent of Marquis or greater, please see the Background Require section. Contact staff if you have questions.

Middle Class - Most middle class characters do not require a background, unless they have significant assets. If you are uncertain as to whether you require one, contact staff.

Minor Nobles - Any members of the nobility below the rank of Marquis do not require a background, however as these people usually have ties to established characters on the grid, please take the time to contact these players OOC and discuss your connections before establishing them in game.

Servants - In this case it means actual servants, not Servants Of Naamah. Butlers, cooks, maids, stablemen, these concepts do not require a background.

Background Required

Characters who require backgrounds and inspection by staff can request to be reviewed by utilizing either by either @mailing to staff using the *staff mailias, or by +request. Please be aware that when we say "background required" we don't mean you get an attempt to make a background and the staff says "Yes" or "No" and that is the end of it. If there are aspects to tweak, the rp staff will walk you through it!

Courtesans - Courtesans with partially completed or completed marques may contact staff for inspection and approval, as well as to make sure their marque is properly coded.

Dowaynes - All Dowaynes require background and approval.

Major Nobles - Nobles with the equivalent rank of Marquis or higher regardless of country must have a background and be inspected. Nobles with rank of Duke or higher regardless of country must contact staff BEFORE completion of their character for pre-approval. (D'Angeline Dukes and Duchesses are feature characters, so please see below for the feature application process)

Seconds - House Seconds require inspection and approval.

Feature Characters

Feature Characters are PC's who have a significant amount of IC power and are expected to be utilized to facilitate roleplay and major events on the game as might be needed. These characters absolutely require inspection and approval, however further detail is required on what playing such a character entails.

To play an FC, you must additionally fulfill the following requirements:

• Have participated on the game for a minimum of 100 hours (Type: +hours <name> to determine this.)

• Run an IC event of some kind for others to participate in. You may do this within an IC context (e.g., your character hosts a party), or you can simply function as a storyteller without your PC's involved.

• Demonstrate a solid understanding of the game's theme.
