Are You A Servant?
From Wiki
By the next day's dawning of the controversial edict regarding the pursuits of marqued courtesans, the following leaflet is in circulation all over Mont Nuit and Night's Doorstep.
Are you a Servant?
The Dowaynes, particularly Mireal no Cereus, would have you believe that once you've completed your marque, the only capacity in which you may serve the Night Court is through assignations with patrons. Any pursuits one is considering, even if those pursuits contribute to the coffers of your House, must be abandoned, for according to Mireal no Cereus and the other Dowaynes, you are no longer a Servant.
Do not believe them.
It is not for the Houses to say who is or is not a Servant; this only the Temple of Naamah may declare. What the Houses can do is choose to exile you, or no longer recognize you as one of theirs. Independant Servants can and do exist - perhaps the Dowaynes would have you forget. But then, they have their secrets.
Such as their declaration that the meetings of the new Night Court Council may only be attended by Dowaynes and Seconds. What are they trying to hide? Is the only voice you may have only come through your Dowayne? What assurances do you have of what goes on behind those closed doors? And what of the alleged promises of Mireal no Cereus to offer a recording of the votes on every edict? The numbers with regard to this most recent divisive resolution are curiously absent. And why not publically state who voted how?
There is only one way to make yourself heard if you are fully marqued and are being robbed of your ability to honor Naamah and pursue your secondary dedications - most of which have previously had the House coffers recieve benefit from: Vote with your feet. Remember your first allegiance, and that is to Naamah. And to the Brothers and Sisters who are still amidst earning their marque; if you feel that yours are being poorly treated, you too can make your voices known; though it may delay your marques, bear in mind that you may refuse any assignation you so desire for any reason.
Make your own choices, and know that only you can decide who you serve.
