Description
The apothecary is filled with a wealth of mixtures and potions to deal with every complaint. From lavender for softening skin, to febrifuges for fighting fever, to anodynes for pain relief. Emollients, cathartics, emetics, and yes, even aphrodisiacs are all available for purchase here. Long rows of whitewashed oak shelves line the stone walls, and bubbled glass jars hold a bevy of assorted herbs, flowers, and powders. A large counter of bleached oak, with cabinets of white, spans the length of one stone wall, and upon it are various and sundry bits of the trade. Small glass vials, filled with the colors of ink and blood, stand in a tray and tiny paper sachets of various preparations are gathered nearby in aged wooden box.
Large charts of the stars, the sun and moon, and the seasons are hand drawn and meticulously painted upon the walls opposite the shelving, and a small mahogany desk with quill and font, and a few small books shows the studious nature of one who takes the trade seriously.
The air is antiseptic and the scent of rosemary and thyme is strong here, as is the pungent aroma of specially blended herbal tinctures. Wide flagstones of slate and granite pave the floor, and a large fireplace dominates one end of the open shoppe. Several small cauldrons dangle over the open flame, simmering and bubbling with their potent healing brew. Large iron sconces spaced every three feet along the walls hold numerous candles to illuminate the area, but large windows open to the street outside letting in fresh air and light, in abundance.
