A Brief Treatise in Defense of Loving Service to Naamah

(Penned in the elegant hand is the following copy of the Queen's published paper, copied over by the hand of a scribe. In her writing at the top she simply states. "Kushiel forgive me for my sense of pride, at having been brave enough to do this thing. And yet Elua give me strength to do so again, and find solace in writing on the topics which weigh against my heart)

A Brief Treatise in Defense of Loving Service to Naamah

It brings me both deep grief and disturbing anger to hear devotion to Naamah spoken of with as many ill words and grave misconceptions as seem to lately pass D'Angeline lips. Yet such is done, and often. And so it seems we who serve Her now, or served Her once, must speak out in defense of what it is that we do, and why it is we do so.

Service to Naamah is a choice borne from great faith. It is a deep desire to be as close to the divine companion Herself as one can be. Whether tis done so through the modesty of Alyssum House, the sensuality of Jasmine, the dark dominance of Mandrake, or the yielding canon of Valerian, we all hold in common that one thing. We serve out of deep desire to do so. We are asked time and time again, by our Dowaynes, our guardians, by whomever it is that would lead us to this life, "Is this your will?" Only when again and again is our soul's answer "Yes" are we taken to Naamah's temple.

There the question is posed us once more "Is it your wish to dedicate yourself into Naamah's service?" And only when we have once more agreed and let the dove fly from our hands and towards the skies are we baptised into Her blessed service. But once that is done, there is not a Servant among the thirteen Houses or otherwise who does not know what it means. It is a pledge of service and dedication to Naamah. Our flesh, until limned with its marque of completion, belongs to Her. And so consecrated onto the Angels we begin the rest of our formal training and look joyfully towards the days when we may live on this earth as flesh and blood entities in her name, worshipping her with every touch, every caress, every sigh. Collecting in each pleasure a tithe of coin consecrated onto her, so that she and we and our lovers are thus thrice blessed with the pleasure of it.

To assume that Serving Naamah thusly is not to "Love as Thou Wilt" is a fault in logic. We who serve or served Naamah choose, or chose for a time, to Love Her first above all others. And in exchange are given such divine pleasures, such glorious displays of the Love that she holds for us, that no pen could do them justice upon a page. Such service is always a choice. A choice made again and a again, and those hearts it does not call to should indeed leave it behind. To say however, that the Night Court is a place that leaves Elua's will behind is to forget that Naamah's will and Elua's are not separate. Indeed, each makes the other possible.

Though I may now sit the throne, I recall my days as Naamah's Servant as those of the highest glory my small life will ever hold. I pray to Her in thanks for the years of love and beauty She bestowed upon me daily, and will consider myself a servant of Her, and of Mont Nuit, until I breathe my last.

With Humility,

Her Majesty Queen Athenais de Morhban
